Ok, I've been really slack in posting anything. I have been getting so few views that sometimes it makes posting difficult. Oh well.
So for those of you who are looking... I have some pretty big news. I have a new product in the shop now. Spindles!
The Clay Sheep Spindles are made with Red Oak wood, custom handcrafted polymer clay swirls, sterling silver filled wire accents, Argentium Silver hard tempered wire hooks, with a hand rubbed tung oil finish.
They are rim weighted (the majority of the weight is towards the outer edge), balanced, spin really smooth & for a good long time.
They come in 3 sizes - Small, approx. 1oz - Medium, approx. 1.5oz - Large, approx. 2oz (Each individual spindle weight is listed in the title & first line of description.) Choosing the weight of your spindle can be confusing & leaves a lot to personal preference. You can spin almost any type of yarn on any spindle, it just takes effort & skill. However, I think some spindles are better suited for certain types of fiber & weights of yarn. My general guideline is this: Small - thin yarns, laceweight, fingering & possibly sport weight Medium - medium weight yarns from sport weight to worsted weight Large - thick yarns from worsted weight, bulky & art type yarns, also good for plying
Each one is completely handcrafted with a lot of love, effort & care, not a lot of fancy tools. :) They are all numbered & signed by me on the underside of the whorl.
CUSTOM COLORS: Feel free to contact me about having a drop spindle made with a custom color. Custom colors are an additional $20 per spindle over my standard price. What is a custom color? Any color that I do not have in the store stock at this time.
I made a few shawl/scarf pins for a customer this week. These were my first sterling silver pieces! I think they came out nice & I didn't mess up any of my expensive wire. :) I was really nervous about that.
These would be perfect for scarves or shawls made from your handspun yarns, wear it like jewelry as a brooch, or even a cute accent for a hat. It is paired with a coordinating fabric covered button magnet, it can even be worn with the button showing instead of the bead.
